Constructed in 1890’s as one of five ‘Medallion Houses’ the project is split between the main house and an existing coach house to the rear of the site.

Planning permission was granted in summer 2008 to increase accommodation of the both buildings, netting a 85% increase in the floor area and establishing a residential use for the coach house.

The approach to this project has been one of careful restorative protection combined with the expression of the new structure in encased steel and glass

Internally, a clear distinction is made between old and new structures. Interventions are identified with a pale palette of simple, natural materials provide a juxtaposition with the timber panels walls and wide board timber floors of the restored interior.

The proposed dwelling will incorporate many innovative features designed to achieve an environmentally sustainable building - minimising the impact of the new dwelling on the local environment, whilst insulating the inhabitants from high running costs in an era of rising energy prices.
