Housing: Walsall, Staffordshire

The Dolphin is a 36,500sqft new build residential scheme sited two miles north of Walsall town centre. The Proposal occupies the site of the former Dolphin public house which was destroyed by fire in 2007.

This project proposes 24 apartments flanking a garden square to the south and east, above a shared semi basement car park, located to take advantage of the sloping site.

The configuration of the blocks reflect the ‘L’ shaped street frontage of the site. This arrangement also allows each unit to enjoy double aspect views of either open land or the garden square.

The elevations are clad in metal panels set in to a brick framework with floor to ceiling glazing. Both the terrace and the east /west blocks scale is broken down into interconnecting parts, with the entrance and core expressed externally by glazed sections separating the residential elements.
