This former laundry in Chelsea is to be partially demolished to create a new build eco- family house; built within a constrained land-locked residential site. The brief was to achieve high quality residential spaces without the aesthetic compromise of eco-elements. Outwardly refined, the building is accessed through a street fronting carriage driveway and the proposals are for open plan living spaces, courtyard space and private decked roof terraces. Behind the scenes there are a host of concealed sustainability features: insulated walls are filled with shredded newspaper, heating and hot water is provided by geothermal bore holes, photovoltaic cells generate electricity to power the heat pumps, car charging points and grey water recycling systems.
