Frustrated by the limitations of their 1930’s home, the clients had decided to move house to increase the space available for their growing family.  CWA were approached to look at the feasibility of designing a scheme to meet the client’s space requirements.

By developing a previously unused volume in the loft, in addition to a planning consent, the size of the property has been doubled.

The front facade of the house has been retained for planning reasons while the rear and sides of the property have been remodelled to give 3,500 ft2 of accommodation.

At ground floor on the rear elevation the façade opens onto a mature garden while bedrooms above have floor to ceiling windows for views (and ventilation) of the landscaping below. Privacy and solar shading to the rear is achieved through use of a cedar snib wall and gable. A  floor to ceiling curtail wall to the gable imbues the family room at loft level with light.
